JUSTICE – The two French rugby players charged with rape for nearly two months in Argentina were granted permission by the courts to return to France on Tuesday, September 3. The prosecution had already recommended on Monday that Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou be allowed to leave the country, but the final approval of a judge was still required. This has now been done.

At Tuesday’s hearing in Mendoza, the prosecution did not oppose the prosecutor’s recommendation, the court said in a statement. “This resolution therefore remains valid, and they will be able to leave the country from now on.”the statement added.

The two 21-year-old internationals remain charged with aggravated rape because they were gang raped. The alleged events occurred on the night of July 6-7 in a hotel room in Mendoza, where the French XV had just won a test match against Argentina.

“They can go away”confirmed to AFP Martin Ahumada, spokesman for the provincial justice system, while it remained to be defined, during the hearing on Tuesday, whether an extension of the psychological assessments already carried out was required, an extension requested by the plaintiff’s lawyers. Extension or not, “they can leave now”Martin Ahumada assured AFP. “They can leave, and then see the required terms of the expertise, and appear if summoned.”.

He recalled that the green light given on Monday for the players to return to France by the prosecution is accompanied by ” rules “notably “to appear if summoned to the Argentine consulate in France”present yourself in virtual mode “as often as required”or even return “to report to Mendoza (1,000 km from Buenos Aires) if requested”.

The players claim that the sexual relations with the plaintiff, a 39-year-old Argentinian woman they met in a nightclub, were consensual. And they deny any violence, while the plaintiff’s lawyer has raised the issue “terrible violence”.

Lawyers for both players filed a motion to dismiss the case last week, for which a hearing date has not yet been set.
