Stéphane Plaza is on trial before the Paris court this Thursday, January 9, for domestic violence. His lawyers intend to obtain an acquittal, in particular thanks to several testimonies.
This Thursday, January 9, the trial of Stéphane Plaza begins. The host is on trial for “habitual violence by a partner”. He is accused by two former companions of physical and psychological violence between 2018 and 2022. One of the complainants assures in particular that the host broke her finger and dislocated two others, while threatening her. The second said that the M6 star bit her twice for no reason and was sometimes very aggressive. These two women were given incapacity for work for more than eight days. Thus, Stéphane Plaza risks up to ten years in prison and a fine of 150,000 euros. He is also at stake in his media future since M6 had ruled out ending its collaboration with the host in the absence of a conviction. Since the beginning of the affair, he has disputed the facts.
The trial begins at 9:30 a.m. at the Paris criminal court and the moderator will be present. Last August, he did not appear due to “psychological fragilities”. After a medical assessment, the host was this time deemed “fit to appear”. He would be “looking forward to being able to defend himself” according to his lawyers, reports BFMTV. The morning would be devoted to procedural questions and the study of the merits of the file should begin this afternoon.
Key testimonies for the defense
The lawyers intend to plead for acquittal, accusing the two women of lies. For the host, all this was imagined by his ex-partners, who have not digested the breakup. He also filed a complaint for harassment against his accusers. Stéphane Plaza will show during the trial “to his two accusers that building revenge through lies will not lead to any conviction”, added his defense. “We are ready to fight. This is going to be a very difficult moment psychologically. He is treated like an infamous delinquent by two ex-partners. Stéphane Plaza is very confident. These are absurdities, which is what my client is accused of”, assured his lawyer Me Carlo Alberto Brusa. To do this, his lawyers asked several witnesses to appear in order to deny the accusers’ statements. Four or five people should take the stand today to defend Stéphane Plaza.
On the side of the complainants, Me Clotilde Lepetit affirmed, as reported Liberationthat her client “will go to the hearing with the courage and honesty necessary to confront the harshness and defense methods of Stéphane Plaza”. “The posture of the defendant Plaza, which consists of presenting himself as a victim of spurned women, is a laughable cliché,” added Benjamin Chouai, lawyer for the other plaintiff, who will also be present. The testimony of a third woman could be cited during the hearing, even if she does not appear in the charge retained for the trial. She said she had been threatened with a fork by Stéphane Plaza at the restaurant because she had just revealed to him that she had discovered his infidelity.
