Angèle Guichaux was the founder of a real success story in Marche-en-Famenne

Angèle and Albert were on the front line to give Marche a reputation which quickly crossed the borders of Famenne, the province and even the country. With their friend Albert Dehaan and the leaders of the tourist office at the time, the Petit couple organized a trade fair at the Las Vegas in Harsin. It was in 1967. You know the rest of this incredible success story.

Angèle and Albert took sole management of the Salon in 1978. It then moved to a marquee at Place aux Foires, at the Franciscans, at Place de l’Étang and then at Thiers des Corbeaux. Marc, the son, took over the reins in 1986, entered the Guiness Book of Records with the largest marquee in the world in 1992. This was followed by the creation of the WEX and its five halls in 2001 before their sale nine years later to Gabriel Catania .

Matoufé and Plovinète

“During all these years, Angèle remained on the front line, observes Roger Verdin, who has managed the WEX concierge service with his wife Joëlle since its construction. She helped out at the entrances and ensured that the parking lot was well organized. She was respected and appreciated by the staff whom she took pleasure in pampering by offering small filled biscuits each time she visited.”

Very involved in the Marchois Initiative Union, always with her husband, Angèle participated in the birth of the Matoufé brotherhood in 1961, but was especially involved in Plovinète, this folk group specializing in popular dances. “Angèle chaired the non-profit organization, but she was, above all, considered the pioneer of our group, insists Joëlle Bresmal, who took over. She wanted that alongside gastronomy, Marche would also give pride of place to its folklore. With Angèle, Plovinète thus performed in almost all of Europe.”

Dance and music, but also sporting activities, will have long marked the life of the deceased.

On her… man’s bike, a “Battaglin”, she has accumulated miles, alone or in the company of her friends from the Cyclos de la Famenne.

Angèle was the mother of two children, Madeleine and Marc. His funeral will be celebrated this Friday, at 2 p.m., at Saint-Remacle Church.
