A Korean woman, identified as an internet host in her 30s, was found dead in Cambodia earlier this week.
On June 11, it was reported that the young woman’s body was found on June 6.
The woman’s body was found wrapped in a red cloth in a pond in a small town in Kandal province, near Phnom Penh.
The body was first identified as a Korean woman in her 30s, and following an investigation by local police, it was revealed to be BJ Ahyeong, an AfreecaTV influencer with more of 250,000 followers on Instagram.
She reportedly traveled to Cambodia with an acquaintance for tourism purposes.
The cause of death is still undetermined. Cambodian police told media they were investigating a possible murder and were awaiting autopsy reports to determine the exact cause of death.
However, a Chinese couple was arrested.
Cambodian authorities have arrested the Chinese couple in their thirties, owners of a hospital, as suspects in his murder. According to the suspects, she died in hospital on June 4 due to a seizure suffered while receiving treatment.
The police suspect the couple of having disposed of the victim’s body to avoid punishment.
A local witness, however, cast doubt on the cause of her death when he said the influencer appeared to have been severely beaten.
“Local media and the embassy say it does not appear that she was murdered, but her face was found severely swollen. Rumors claim she was assaulted. »
A representative from the Korean embassy in Cambodia has since said authorities are still investigating the death.
“We will respond with the Korean police as the Cambodian police share information from the investigation. »
Korean police said they have asked Cambodian police to thoroughly investigate the case.
All our condolences.
