Prince Harry ends lawsuits he filed against News Group Newspapers, which owns The Sunafter reaching a financial agreement with the owner of the tabloid.
The lawsuit between Prince Harry and News Group Newspapers (NGN) is finally over. On Wednesday January 22, the lawyer for the son of King Charles III, David Sherborne, announced that an agreement had been reached between the Duke of Sussex and the owner of The Sun. The NGN notably apologized to Meghan Markle’s husband for “the serious intrusion by The Sun newspaper between 1996 and 2011 into his private life, including incidents linked to illegal activities carried out by private investigators working for The Sun”. The group owned by billionaire Rupert Murdoch also apologized “for phone hacking, surveillance and misuse of private information by journalists and private investigators commissioned by them at the News of the World”. The NGN also spoke about how this coverage had a significant impact on his private life “as well as that of Diana, Princess of Wales, his late mother, particularly during her younger years”.

“Significant damages”
The press group that owns the tabloid The Sun also recognized “the distress caused to the Duke” et s’excuse “for the damage inflicted on his relationships, friendships and family”. NGN then accepts “to pay him significant damages”. As a reminder, after winning his trial against the Mirror Group in December 2023, Prince Harry engaged in a new legal battle against the tabloid The Sun pour “illegal collection of information”. Prince William’s brother notably accuses NGN of telephone hacking and other violations of his private life between 1996 and 2011. The trial began Tuesday, January 21, but was ultimately shortened thanks to the announcement of the agreement concluded between the two parties.
