Bart De Wever (N-VA) was, for the third time, sworn in as mayor of Antwerp on Monday morning in front of provincial governor Cathy Berx. Just after the ceremony, he left for Brussels where negotiations for the formation of a federal government are due to resume at noon.
“The devil always hides in the details and it is in the end that he appears”, he said about it. “There is no greater honor for me than being mayor of this city. You never get used to passing through the doors of City Hall”also declared Bart De Wever. “It is here, in Antwerp, that I can do the best job. At the federal level, the stable still needs to be cleaned. In Antwerp, we have already done our homework”he added.
Saying goodbye to the mayoral sash because of the federal appeal would be “amer”, continued the boss of the N-VA who will only lead the government if he “can do something useful”. “I will not compromise on my ambitions”, he insisted.
-Finally, Bart De Wever did not want to comment on the fact that the president of the MR, Georges-Louis Bouchez, left the negotiations during an interview last weekend. “I am a trainer and not a moral lesson giver”, he recalled. According to the Antwerp mayor, the departure of Georges-Louis Bouchez would not have had a negative impact on the negotiations.
