Some Americans accustomed to the warm rays of the Sun will have a small taste of winter. A rare storm is preparing to hit the southern United States and could dump more than 15 cm of snow in places.

The state of Louisiana will be the most affected by this historic snowfall: more than 15 cm is expected in places west of New . East Texas could also receive between 5 and 15 cm, depending on the area. Same scenario in Mississippi, where 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected, and in Georgia, where between 5 to 10 cm are expected to fall.

Remember that the areas targeted by this snowstorm are located on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico: a rare contrast.

As of this writing, some schools in Louisiana have already announced they will close next Tuesday, the day of the storm.

Double scenario

While Louisiana will get snow, part of the state of Florida will get nothing other than… icy. The forecast areas are located in the northern Sunshine State.

Depending on the region, more than 20 mm of freezing rain is expected. This is a fairly high amount, especially for this area which is not used to this type of precipitation.

These historic precipitations of ice and snow are caused by the same descent of arctic air which will drastically reduce the temperature in our province over the coming days.
