The Markovic affair, more than fifty years old, continues to be talked about. In 1968, Stevan Markovic, a Yugoslav refugee and close friend of Alain Delon, was found dead, shot in the head in Yvelines. Staying with the Parisian actor, Stevan Markovic left his home for the last time on September 22, 1970. According to testimonies, he sought to blackmail Alain Delon by threatening to disclose compromising photos, supposedly taken during parties organized in a house of Saint-Cloud. These photos would have involved figures from all over Paris, fueling sulphurous rumors mixing organized crime, sexual scandals and political insinuations, notably about Claude Pompidou. Georges Pompidou, then vying for the presidency, denounced a plot aimed at harming his career. The situation became even worse with the stories of Misha Slovenac, a friend of Markovic, questioned out of procedure in prison by investigators in 1970. His confidences described places, events and key players in the drama, but this information, recorded in a note, were never included in the official file.
The new revelations of journalist Hervé Gattegno in his work A corpse on the road to the Élysée would, however, raise questions again. According to Slovenac, Stevan Markovic met Corsican gangster François Marcantoni to recover money in connection with his blackmail, the same day of his disappearance. Others (…)
