Neil Young is not one to hand out good points, but you have to believe that the film A Complete Unknown caught his eye. In a message published on his Neil Young Archives site, the 78-year-old rocker is full of praise for the biopic dedicated to the beginnings of Bob Dylan with Timothée Chalamet in the title role.
“I love Bob Dylan and his music. I always loved him. He is a great artist,” he wrote. “One day he got on my bus and I didn’t recognize him, so I kicked him out, but that’s another story. This film is a great tribute to his life and his music. »
A long friendship
If Neil Young strongly advises lovers of Bob Dylan’s work to go see A Complete Unknownit is also because the two musicians share a long history. In addition to mutual admiration, they were notably seen playing together in The Last WaltzMartin Scorsese’s concert film released in 1978, for a memorable version of I Shall Be Released.
As for the film with Timothée Chalamet, it looks back on Bob Dylan’s beginnings in the folk scene of Greenwich Village in the early 1960s, up to his famous electric performance at the Newport Folk Festival in 1965. A Complete Unknown will be released in French cinemas on January 29.
