France: victim of fake Brad Pitt cyberharassed after report

A woman defrauded in by a fake Brad Pitt found herself the victim of cyberstalking since the recent broadcast of a television report on this affair, which led the TF1 channel on Tuesday to remove it from all its platforms.

“The report broadcast this Sunday (January 12, 2025) sparked a wave of harassment against a witness. For the protection of victims, we have decided to remove it from our platforms,” it is written on the X account of the show “Sept à Huit”.

Named Anne and filmed on camera, the victim, aged around fifty, says she paid 830,000 euros (around 779,000 francs) to crooks who pretended to be Brad Pitt by sending him fake selfies, falsified identity documents and using artificial intelligence to dispel doubts.

Pretending to need money to pay for an operation for kidney cancer, the fake Brad Pitt managed to extract large sums from this woman, who is now ruined and has made three suicide attempts. According to the report, she filed a complaint and is currently hospitalized in an establishment specializing in severe depression.

Since the broadcast of the report, she has been the subject of taunts from Internet users mocking her supposed gullibility. The football club, in the south of France, posted a message on Wednesday (…) And you? Under fire from criticism, the first division club then backtracked by presenting its “sincere apologies”.

Netflix posted a message on X listing four films available on its platform in which the American star appears. “4 films to see with Brad Pitt (promise) it’s a gift,” says the message.
