The winner of the fourth season ofAmerican Idol will indeed perform next Monday, January 20 during the ceremony during which Donald Trump, 78, will be sworn in as the next president of the United States. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Presidential Inauguration Committee to PEOPLE magazine on Monday.
The name of Carrie Underwood is therefore found everywhere on the web and social networks since this announcement which leaves few people indifferent, and which surprised more than one. Starting with hundreds of admirers of the country-pop artist who can’t believe their idol’s decision.
Loss of many admirers
On the Instagram page of the 41-year-old singer from Oklahoma, the criticisms are multiplying and are particularly harsh.
“Never call yourself an LGBTQ ally again, you support the man who wants to abolish LGBTQ rights, you should be ashamed,” wrote one user.
“Singing for a human being who does not support basic human rights is absurd,” wrote another.
“Oh my God Carrie. I’m so sad. But goodbye. I was a fan. So disappointing,” we can also read. Just like “What a disappointment. You lost a fan. Have fun singing at the inauguration of a dictator.”
“Oh my God, I was one of Carrie’s biggest fans from day one on Idol. Upon learning that she is performing for Trump, I unfortunately have to leave as a fan,” adds a former fan whose essence of the message is echoed by many subscribers.

Some nuanced remarks
On PEOPLE magazine’s Facebook page, comments of disappointment and calls for a boycott of the singer mix with some more “nuanced” remarks such as: “I can still like her music and have no respect for her as a ‘being human given what she supports’ or ‘I always respect my friends even if we disagree on certain things. Everyone’s opinions matter to them, I have no right to judge them.”
But as a general rule, it is shock and bitterness that prevail.
“I will never listen to his music again. I have lost all respect for her,” we can read many times from dismayed music fans.
Will Carrie Underwood’s decision to perform at Donald Trump’s ceremony taint the rest of her career? This will be something to see.
