The bones were found several kilometers away and approximately 700 meters below the level where the accident is believed to have taken place.

The remains of a missing skier in the mountains from Austrian Tyrol in 1967 were identified this Thursday, January 9, i.e. 58 years laterthanks to DNA analysis.

This is a man from the German region of Baden-Württemberg, bordering and Switzerland. At the age of 30, he had an accident while skiing in the Rotmoos Valley. He is fell into a crevasse of a glacier at approximately 3,300 meters above sea level.

Animal bones according to a first analysis

The body was only found last year : as reported by the Austrian press agency WHAT cited by 3/24several bones appeared, including the lower part of a leg and a foot. The remains were found several kilometers away and approximately 700 meters below the level where the accident is believed to have occurred.

During an initial analysis, the Institute of Forensic Medicine at the University of Innsbruck concluded that they were animal bones. But However, new genetic tests revealed that they were human bones and made it possible to identify the corpse. According to Austrian police, the victim has no living relatives.
