INTERVIEW. Grand Maestro of Don’t forget the words on France 2, Benoît spoke exclusively to TV Actu to look back on his impressive career. The opportunity also to know your weak point.
Benoît entered the top 3 of the best Maestros of Don’t forget the lyrics on January 8, 2025. The 31-year-old young man dreamed of it and he did it! Arriving on December 2, 2024 on the Nagui set after having spent years revising lots of songs, he does not intend to leave his place anytime soon. Interviewed by TV Newsthe professional photographer returned exclusively to his journey out of the norm and indulged in this “flaw” which could well cause his downfall in the game.
TV News: With your notoriety thanks to Don’t forget the lyrics, will anyone stop you in the street from now on?
Benoît: Yes ! I knew it was going to happen eventually. It’s funny but I also know that it’s very temporary. I take the time to chat with people who pass me and recognize me.
How does a day of filming take place?
The pace is very intense because we shoot between 10 and 14 shows a day, but it’s such a joy to be able to sing with an orchestra. I’m 31 years old, that’s nice but you have to think about Nagui who is 63 and who spends the day on his feet (laughs). He fascinates me, I would like to have his shape at his age.
Were you able to speak with Margaux, the greatest Maestro of the show?
No, I don’t know her at all. I think she hears about me. If it seems far away to me, for her part she must start to feel in danger.
How long have you been watching Don’t Forget the Lyrics?
I watched when I was very young. I had my very first casting when I was 18 and I failed at the first stage. It must have been in 2011, it was my cousin who registered me. I stopped following for a while after that before starting again 5 years ago and watching every evening with my mother. I went back to live with her and it was a bit like our daily meeting.
What type of song could get you in trouble?
There are many. I don’t know if we can categorize it into a “type” of song but all the ones date from the 2010s because I wasn’t listening to French music at all at that time. I’ve worked on it since then, but it’s true that I really have a weakness for this decade.
Do you have a charm with you during the shows?
Yes, I talked about it on the show. We even took it out, it’s a 20-sided die that one of my friends gave me. He is always with me. I run it on the mornings of filming to find out what’s going to happen during the day.
Do you have any idea what you are going to do with the money collected in your kitty?
There will be little madness. I’m going to travel again. I’m going to finish the one I haven’t finished and I’m going to try to invest a little money to ensure financial stability. The job of photographer pays well but there are periods when you can have fewer contracts, in winter for example it’s a little complicated sometimes. The idea would also be to have a stable income.
So you continue your profession as a photographer?
Yes, it’s my job and I love it!
And you still live in a shared ownership?
We bought a house with four families and we live with five and the idea is to make it a cultural eco-place in Maine-et-Loire to host events. We are all a little bit artistic.
You often defend your taste for ecology. Is this an important cause for you?
It’s true that it shows a lot on set. Yes it is important but also because we are in 2025 and it is a major subject. We realize that life will not be able to continue like this. We are destroying the planet. I don’t particularly care about it, but I feel that we don’t really have a choice but to talk about it.
How do those close to you react to your success?
They are extremely happy for me. I have my two grandmothers who tell me that they are on the verge of a heart attack during every show (laughs). My mom is very happy for me. Don’t forget the lyrics is a show that brought us closer together and she knows how much I was invested in it. They are all very relieved because my efforts have finally paid off. There is pride too, I have become the star of the family.
Which other Maestros are you close to?
The ones I am closest to are Charlotte, who I played against in 2023 and Etienne. With Laurens also and a little Louis.
Did you get any advice from them?
Etienne put me through coaching so that I could enjoy myself on set and not be under pressure. It was great, it was my breath of fresh air. He was the one who hosted me before my first shoot. He took me to meet his friends in Paris, to jam together in bars. He really has been a huge support. Laurent, for his part, gave me a lot of advice on how to prepare for The Same Song and I apply them to the fullest. Charlotte stayed a little far away but she is very busy since she has just given birth, she has other things to think about.
What are you watching on TV?
Don’t forget the lyrics et Taratata Also, I love it! It sounds very “Nagui, Nagui” but for now it’s really a show that I find brilliant.
