For several months, Bethany Joy Lenz has decided to no longer remain silent. To reveal everything about the life she led in a sect for ten years alongside her career as a successful actress in The Scott Brothers. The one who played Haley James Scott in the series wrote a book, Dinner for Vampiresreleased in October. She recounts the influence of the Christian group, her arranged marriage with the guru’s son and how she managed to escape. Thursday January 9, she gave even more details on this departure in the podcast Rooted Recovery Stories. “I left for my daughter [née en 2011, ndlr]. I left because it was time”she said. In 2012, she slammed the door on the Idaho-based sect and ended her marriage. The thirty-year-old is lost and feels like she has to start everything from scratch.

And suddenly I found myself in the middle of my life and I was like, ‘I don’t even know who I am.’says Bethany Joy Lenz today, more than ten years after this breakup. In 2012, The Scott Brothers ends with a ninth season. Bethany Joy Lenz therefore leaves the cult which took control of her life and her finances for 10 years at the same time as she says goodbye to the series and to the colleagues with whom she shared the last nine years.

Bethany Joy Lenz details what went through her mind when she decided to regain her independence: “I said to myself, ‘I’ll start in my car. I will live there. I will take care of myself and the people I love. I’m going to take off the costume, the makeup, and start from the beginning to understand who I am.’ In Good Morning Americaa few weeks ago, the now 43-year-old actress explained that she didn’t want her daughter to have to go through the same identity crisis. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me and why I put up with being treated this way, but there’s no way this is going to happen to her. We have to go”she explained on American television.
