The director of Small Handkerchiefs spoke about the budding career of his 13-year-old teenager during his appearance on the show “50' Inside” on January 4.

It's hard not to squint at the cinema when you're the son of Guillaume Canet and Marion Cotillard. The French actor and director was the subject of a profile in the show “50' Inside”, broadcast on January 4. This is where the husband of The Kid opened up about his son's interest in an acting career. An interest which inevitably raises a little concern for his parents.

The beginnings of Marcel Canet

Marcel, 13, made his first appearance on screen in 2023 in Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom. He plays the role of young Asterix. “He really wanted it, so from that moment on, we had to give him a leg up…” confided Guillaume Canet. The teenager therefore made his film debut with his family, since his father is the director and he plays in his own film alongside Marion Cotillard. I preferred it as much as it happened with me, he said again. Afterwards, we monitor it closely, because we know that it’s a bit young to start.”

A family affair

Protective father, Guillaume Canet recognizes that his son's interest in the seventh art causes him some gray hairs. “It’s a job that is still very difficult, which requires you to question yourself often, there are times when you take buckets of shit, it can be hard to take,” he confides. But the actor seems confident in the example his couple can set for his son to prevent the fever of fame taking over. “At the same time, he is in a good school. He has parents who have their heads on their shoulders, we live like normal people,” he said. Succession is assured.
