With his third film as director (after the success Everyone standing et Rumba life), Franck Dubosc is trying a bet that could well be a winner. At the antipodes of Camping and schoolboy comedies for which he has shone in the past, the 61-year-old actor, frank about the success of Artus’ film, A little something extra recently returned with a thriller inspired by the films of the Coen brothers, A bear in the Jura. Alongside established actors, including Benoît Poelvoorde and Laure Calamy, the actor returns with this darkly humorous dramatic comedy which could well be one of the great cinematic surprises of the start of 2025.
“It flatters me that people are surprised”responds Franck Dubosc to Paris Match when asked if he is irritated by critics who believe that his latest film is very far from his usual universe, before adding: “I have often experienced this. See a slightly idiotic playboy who, suddenly, is less stupid than we thought. It’s often the difference that makes the seduction.(…) I love reading the reviews, it’s very nourishing. I have sometimes been of the same opinion as the press when they reviewed one of my films” A beautiful philosophy of life from Franck Dubosc, father of two boys aged 14 and 12 with his wife Danièle, who shows that despite success, he has remained humble.
Franck Dubosc’s career has exceeded his expectations
A way of being which perhaps came to him from his childhood in a modest environment, near Petit-Quevilly (Seine-Maritime) in Normandy. Son of a customs declarant and a town hall employee, the one who managed to find the perfect trick to brilliantly manage arguments with Danièle talks to our colleagues about his childhood. “I dreamed of going skiing in winter and riding horses in America. Get out of my HLM and live like the people I saw on TV. Be an adventurer. Even at the conservatory, I didn’t think about the career I have now. I actually exceeded my dreams”savors Franck Dubosc, before continuing: “As an actor, and even more so as a director, I didn’t even know it could exist. My ambition was to have a nice car and sign three autographs during the week. I even made a signature just in case…”
