Crooner
He appeared solo after playing with Pulp and the Longpigs in the early 2000s. Coming from Sheffield (a father Teddy Boy, an uncle accompanying American blues musicians during their tours of England), Richard Hawley immediately inspired a very personal style: refined music, with echo, vibrato on the Gretsch guitar, many ballads sounding like neo-fifties lullabies sung in a baritone voice: the Robert Mitchum from The Night of the Hunter in a benevolent version.
Over the years, he broadened his palette, until he lost his way slightly in the following decade. He returned, to the delight of his admirers, to his first loves, and released one of the most beautiful recordings of his already very long career, where we find all the characteristics of his masterpieces previous ones. Glory and resurrection.
