When they received a call that a stray dog had been abandoned in a park, rescuers from Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) rushed to the scene.
Tied to a bench
Rescuers were determined to get the pooch to safety and out of the rain.
When they arrived at the scene, the park seemed completely empty, with its vast green spaces and covered terrace with picnic benches.
But the rescuers quickly realized they were not alone when a small white head appeared between two benches.
The poor doggie had been left alone, tied to a bench, completely to his own devices. He was very thin and covered with ringworm.
A defenseless dog
The dog, later named Wilbur, couldn't move under the picnic tables because his leash was so tight.
At first, the dog was a little intimidated by the presence of the rescuers. He barked a bit, before deciding to trust them.
In the images of the rescue, we can see the doggie who gets into the rescuer's car and quickly snuggles up against her.
Rescuers took him to the vet for check-ups.
To treat ringworm, the veterinarian prescribed a series of medicated baths. Other than that, Wilbur was in relatively good health.
Wilbur has since been placed in foster care and is enjoying his new life every day!
