At 62, Tom Cruise continues to shine, but this time, it was off-screen that the actor received an exceptional award. The U.S. Navy awarded him its highest civilian honor for his impact through iconic military films, such as the “Top Gun” saga.
During a ceremony at Longcross Studios, near London, Tom Cruise, 62, received this prestigious medal from the hands of the American Secretary of the Navy, Carlos Del Toro. The award recognizes his “outstanding contributions” through films like “Top Gun” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” which have increased public interest in the military and even boosted recruitment. “To lead is to serve. I admire the men and women in uniform and it is an honor to represent them”said the actor.
Since the success of “Top Gun” in 1986, which saw recruiters set up in cinemas, until “Top Gun: Maverick” in 2022, Tom Cruise has played a figure in American aviation. The Navy also praised his performances in “Born on the 4th of July” and “Men of Honor”.
With this medal, Cruise joins artists like Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, already honored by the Navy. A distinction which crowns a career where cinema and military tribute merge. Tom Cruise did not hide his emotion when receiving this symbolic medal, which he considers one of the most important of his career:“I will continue to do what I do, inspiring people and representing them through my roles. You, on your part, continue to serve our country and make the world a better place”.
