For several days, Mayotte is heavily affected by the passage of Cyclone Chido. According to an initial provisional report, 21 people lost their lives after the devastating passage of the cyclone, but concerns are great and the authorities fear that the toll will be even higher. “The results have not yet been established” indicated the Prime Minister, François Bayrou, to the National Assembly.

Emmanuel Macron, traveling to Lyon this Tuesday, December 17, announced that he would go there “in a few hours.” The President of the Republic also requested that a curfew be established from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., something which will be done this evening, for security reasons in order to avoid looting.
On television, the public service has decided to mobilize. So France 2 has shaken up its program schedule and will offer this evening, live, “a great evening of support and solidarity for reconstruction and aid to populations devastated by Cyclone Chido” explains a press release.
France 2 is mobilizing and providing support
This premium event is co-hosted by Nagui and Karine Baste and will be “as part of the call for solidarity orchestrated by the Fondation de France” specifies the group. On set, numerous duplexes and reports will be broadcast. The teams are mobilized, particularly the Overseas Pole, Mayotte la 1ère and Réunion.
Public figures, politicians and civil society will also be present on stage to testify about the situation. Finally, many artists also responded to the call to help Mayotte : Marc Lavoine, Nolwenn Leroy, Raphaël, Thomas Dutronc, Ycare and even Kimberose.

Miss Mayotte’s cry for help
This weekend, Miss Mayotte 2024 spoke about the situation affecting her island. While she was live on the TF1 set to try to win the crown of Miss France, the young woman, aged 20, was informed of the situation behind the scenes, by the regional delegate of the Miss Mayotte committee.
“JI couldn’t contact my father. I tried to call him, but the line is disconnected. I went hours without news. I went to an emergency center to try to locate my family, but the situation is chaotic” declared, very moved, Zaya Toumbou, on social networks.
Subsequently, Zaya Tombou made a video to raise awareness in her community of the situation on site and explain the assistance put in place for those who wished to provide support.
