the essential
Members of the Aspibd came together to mark Miners and Metalworkers’ Day, including the creation of an art catalog.
This event was an opportunity to be part of the association’s tradition on the occasion of Sainte-Barbe (miners’, firefighters’ and fireworks’ celebrations, associated with that of metalworkers, Saint-Eloi). The event allows the Aspibd (association for the preservation of the mining and industrial heritage of the Decazeville-Aubin Basin) to close the 2024 season, particularly with regard to the exhibition “Decazeville by Jean Ségalat”.
A success
This exhibition was a great success. Attendance at the museum is increasing and it worked in both directions: those who came for this event went to see the museum and vice versa: those who wanted to discover the museum took the opportunity to understand the works of the Decazeville painter.
“It also had the merit of allowing us to remain open when we had to close the main part of the museum due to hail. In addition, it fits perfectly into the artistic journey initiated by the Community of Communes, which will from Gustave Moreau’s Stations of the Cross to street art, our place in this journey was an opportunity for us”, points out Jean-Pierre Vaur, the president of the Aspibd.
What future for this exhibition?
The answer lies in the hands of Claire and Alain Rieu, the owners of the paintings, but it seems possible that it will be partly renewed for the year 2025. The second reason for this reception is the catalog which has just been released. to be published by Aspibd, immortalizing the vision of Decazeville by Jean Ségalat, in the 1950s, and a copy of which was symbolically given to Claire and Alain Rieu since they made it possible.
“With a quality print, this publication includes all the works presented in the Aspibd museum as well as some photos, illustrating the dialogue that was ours between the painter’s paintings and photos from the industrial era of Decazeville “, continues Jean-Pierre Vaur.
It is possible to acquire this catalog in the museum premises (Centre area, near the health center), on Wednesdays, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. It is both a way to support the association and a beautiful object, already part of the cultural heritage of the city and the Basin.
