Does Audrey Tautou live in the forest? We finally know what has become of the muse of French cinema

Audrey Tautou was, in the 2000s, one of the most flamboyant hopes of French cinema. Thanks to the Fabulous destiny of Amélie Poulainthe masterpiece of Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the actress has become, at only 25 years old, the darling of the seventh artand even one of the highest paid actresses of her generation. However, today, we no longer see it in dark rooms. She fled the spotlight, and completely changed her life. She has taken such a step back that some even wonder if she wouldn't live in the forest!

But Amélie fans can rest assured, the actress, now 48 years old, did not build a tree house to escape her notoriety. It's the journalist Catherine Balle from Parisian who explains it in a podcast published by the daily. “In November 2023, she did a voice for a very pretty animated film called Nina and the secret of the hedgehog, says the reporter. It's been five years since she last appeared in films. I made a paper for The Parisian to tell what she was becoming. And when I started making calls, people told me she had completely disappeared. She changed her life. She left, she left . Someone even said to me, 'She lives in the forest!'

“I haven’t left Paris!” assured Audrey Tautou

In the forest, really? While meeting Audrey Tautou on November 25, 2024, the journalist asked her the question. And… No, the actress doesn't live in the forest! “She burst out laughing!”reports Catherine Balle. “She told me 'It's crazy, I absolutely don't live in the forest. I haven't left Paris, I'm moving, because I've always loved traveling. It's crazy the fantasies you create when you go a little off the rails.' Indeed, continues the journalist, “the approach of a well-known actress who stops, it’s not common”.

If the muse of French cinema in the 2000s decided to stop everything in 2018, it's for a simple reason. “For a very long time, she has wanted to do something else,” continues Catherine Balle. “She has wanted to draw, write, take photos, paint, build furniture… Cinema doesn't allow him to do that, because cinema takes up all his time (…) So she decides to stop.” The actress has not, however, drawn a line under her public life. Always passionate about photography, she published a book of photos, Superfacial (Fisheye Editions), in which she notably reveals portraits of people she met during her travels and the promotion of her feature films.
