Their departure was experienced as a real tsunami within the royal family. In January 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their wish to withdraw from the monarchy. A decision which led to the “Megxit”, two months later.
Prince Harry's choice had consequences, as recalled by Daily Express. Indeed, Prince William's brother would have been upset when Queen Elizabeth II told him that he could no longer
retain his military functions. He therefore had to relinquish his titles as Captain General of the Marines, Honorary Air Force Commander of the Royal Air Force Honington and Commodore-in-Chief of Small Ships and Diving of the Royal Navy.

Prince Harry sacrificed his military titles for his family
Between 2005 and 2015, Prince Harry served in the British Army. His career was notably marked by two missions in Afghanistan and a specialization in piloting Apache helicopters. A very important period of his life that he discussed at length in his memoirs.
The loss of his military honorary titles was therefore
very difficult to accept. “It's 10 years of his life that he dedicated to serving his country, and he must give them now because he chooses to protect his family” said one of his relatives at the time of his departure from the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex can no longer wear his military uniform
On March 7, 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the Mountbatten Music Festival. An evening which took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London. At this event he was able to wear for the last time his red military ceremonial outfit. This represented his role as Captain General of the Royal Marines. A particularly moment “moving” for the Duke of Sussex.
Although he no longer has the right to wear military clothing, Prince Harry received a special authorization
of King Charles III in September 2022. Indeed, he was exceptionally able to wear his military uniform during a vigil after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. An event during which he wanted to pay tribute to him. Since the “Megxit”, Archie and Lilibet’s father is especially involved in les Invictus
Games. It is a sporting competition dedicated to veterans and injured military personnel, which reflects its commitment to the armed forces.
