Keira Knightley fell on hard times after the release of Pirates of the Caribbean
If she had already appeared in films like Play it like Beckham et Star Wars, Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Keira Knightley gained international fame when Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was released in 2003. A few years later, still alongside Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom, she returned to her role as Elizabeth Swann for The Secret of the Cursed Chest et To the end of the world.
Keira Knightley thus participated in one of the most popular franchises of all time. Following its release, The Secret of the Cursed Chest notably became the third biggest success in the history of cinema in 2006. The character of Elizabeth Swann allowed her interpreter to have access to many other leading roles. Unfortunately, this also caused him to be harassed.
The actress traumatized by certain events
After the release of Pirates of the CaribbeanKeira Knightley has become the target of certain tabloids. These latter harassed the actress and regularly ran the rumor that she had an eating disorder. During a recent interview with The Times of Londonthe main interested party returned to this episode. She explained that she had been so traumatized by this moment in her life that she no longer remembers it :
In that classic way of forgetting a traumatic event, I don't remember it. There was a total erasure. But every now and then things come to the surface and I suddenly have a very physical memory of that moment, because basically it's public humiliation, right? It's obviously part of my psyche, given how young I was when it happened.
At the start of filming Pirates of the Caribbean 1in 2002, Keira Knightley was only 17 years old. So she didn't have not even twenty years old when the press started to harass herafter the film's release. Fortunately, she was able to count on the support “incredibly loving” of his family and friends at that time.
She no longer wants to appear in a Hollywood franchise
Despite everything, Keira Knightley had to face terrible public humiliation. But playing Elizabeth Swann also allowed her to win roles in prestigious dramas. Like for example Come back to me et Pride and Prejudice. Her performance in the latter even earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress. The actress therefore lived a paradoxical experience following its appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean 1 :
It's a funny thing when you have something that builds you up and destroys you at the same time. I was seen as shit because of Pirates of the Caribbean, and yet, because they were so successful I had the opportunity to make the films for which I got Oscar nominations.
Because of this ambiguity, Keira Knightley admits that Pirates of the Caribbean occupy today “a very confusing place” in his head. On the other hand, she is sure of not wanting to retry the experience of a Hollywood franchise. According to her, working hours are “crazy” et “You have no control over where you film, how long you film, or what you film. »
Unless she changes her mind, we will no longer see Keira Knigthely in a large-scale saga. On the other hand, she will soon be back in Black Doves. The miniseries will be released Thursday, December 5 sur Netflix.
