It is now in about 3 weeks that the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games will take place in Paris. For the occasion, Emmanuel Macron insisted that Aya Nakamura be the face of the event, which did not fail to provoke reactions and divide the population. Mathieu Kassovitz, in any case, has a strong opinion on the subject.

While some had suggested the names of Florent Pagny, Lara Fabian or Patrick Bruel, it is finally Aya Nakamura who, barring any last-minute surprises, will be the star of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. A choice pushed by the Elysée, which has not made everyone happy, particularly on the right of the political spectrum and with a large part of the French.

Conversely, the celebrities who have spoken out on the subject in recent months, and God knows there have been many, have generally shown their unwavering support for Aya Nakamura. We are thinking in particular of Patrick Bruel, Lara Fabian, Michèle Torr and Michel Drucker. But Matthieu Kassovitz, for his part, is a bit more nuanced.

Matthieu Kassovitz not completely won over by Aya Nakamura

While on the set of RMC’s “Les Grandes Gueules” a few weeks ago, the actor did not hide a certain skepticism regarding the contrast between the styles of Aya Nakamura and Edith Piaf:

If she does her own songs, that’s great. She can do Edith Piaf, yes, but listen to Edith Piaf, guys! Edith Piaf, she’s a little girl all alone at the microphone. If she comes out with that, okay, but I’ve never heard her sing without a vocoder or a computer behind her…

Estelle Denis speaks frankly about Aya Nakamura’s presence at the Olympics: “I would have…”

Clearly not convinced by the ability of the performer of “Djadja” to pay homage to Piaf and her powerful and distinctive voice, Kassovitz then quipped:

If all of a sudden she says “Noooo, nothing at all” and we all fall to our knees… She’s the new Marianne!

However, the director of “La Haine” insisted that he had nothing against Aya Nakamura as an artist. But he still couldn’t help but come back to his curiosity to hear the Bamako native sing without artifice and vocoder:

I just want to hear a song where she sings normally! But I love what she does. In her field, I love it, “the pookie in the airlock”, there is no problem!

Words in the form of a challenge to Aya Nakamura, who, we imagine, is preparing to deliver a performance with all the trimmings to try to outwit the critics. As a reminder, according to an RTL poll, more than 6 out of 10 French people were opposed to her being the muse of the famous ceremony.

While he approves of the choice of Aya Nakamura as the artist for the Olympic opening ceremony, Mathieu Kassovitz seems much more doubtful about her interpretation of a piece by Edith Piaf. The actor and director would have preferred that the artist draw solely from her own repertoire, but he only asks to be positively surprised. See you on July 26, then!
