Apolline de Malherbe loses her nerves fac…

On Monday, July 1, Yaël Braun-Pivet was the guest of Apoline de Malherbe in “Face-à-face” on BFMTV. Between the journalist and the outgoing president of the National Assembly, the tone quickly rose.

In addition to managing the morning slot, Apolline de Malherbe writes a political column on BFMTV since 2013. Every day, she receives a personality who makes the news in her column “Face-à-Face”. An interview that lives up to its name since the journalist confronts her guest live and above all, alone.

On July 1, 2024, the day after the first round of the legislative elections, Apolline de Malherbe received Yaël Braun-Pivet. She started off with a bang by asking her, upon her arrival:
“Is Macronism over?” A tough but legitimate question. The presidential camp was in fact relegated to third position in a majority of constituencies, with 22.1% at the national level according to Ifop.

Yaël Braun-Pivet: “Excuse me for being nuanced!”

The outgoing president of the National Assembly tried to save face. Do I look finished?she said, all smiles, calling herself a “fighter” for democracy. But what exactly is she prepared to do to preserve this democracy? This is what Apolline de Malherbe sought to find out.

“Emmanuel Macron calls for a broad democratic and republican gathering. (…) Regarding voting instructions, are you more Gabriel Attal who says ‘not a single vote for the RN’ or more Edouard Philippe who says neither a single vote for the RN, nor one for LFI’?” asked the 44-year-old journalist. “So I am Yaël Braun-Pivet”, replied the person concerned. “Excuse me for being nuanced!”

Apolline de Malherbes : “I suggest we stop there”

Later in the interview, Apolline de Malherbe tried to get Yaël Braun-Pivet to talk about another topic: women voting for the National Rally party. Several polling institutes have found that there are more and more of them. “I don’t classify the French according to their social categories,” retorted the politician.

Very exasperated, the political journalist did not endorse this response or those that followed. “I suggest we stop there because you are extremely defensive and it is very difficult to question you. Honestly, I am very surprised. I understand that this morning, it is complicated, but if we cannot question you on the territories, the difference between the rural world…”, she began by saying. After the interested party’s confused justifications, she concluded, in an icy tone: “When I ask you questions based on Ipsos’ analyses (…), you tell me that I am classifying the French, and I find that extremely insulting, and I allow myself to say so. Thank you Yaël Braun-Pivet for answering my questions this morning.”
