Eddy Mitchell est a singer in his own right with a raspy voice that is recognizable among thousands. While he is the interpreter of numerous hit songs, he has managed to carve out a place of choice in the French musical landscape just like his great friend, Johnny Hallyday, who died in 2017.
In addition to his career, the artist is also known for his commitments and his positions on different subjects. Indeed, he never misses an opportunity to give his opinion on subjects that are close to his heart, such as politics.
Eddy Mitchell: “I am against the National Front”
For many years, Eddy Mitchell was reluctant to go to the polls. Until a few years ago, voting was not on Eddy Mitchell's list of priorities. In 2022, during the legislative elections, the artist had, for example, revealed on the set of Daily that he did not go to the polls: “I don't trust in all these antics“.
Guest of Audrey Crespo-Mara, in Seven to Huit this Sunday, November 24, the 82-year-old artist shared his opinion on current politics in France and took the opportunity to
tackle the National Rally : “It is better to have a Macron than a Le Pen in power. They are fascists, extremists who are ready to take action”he blurted.
The artist's strong opinion on current politics
This is not the first time that the interpreter of On the road to Memphis criticizes the National Rally. He has already attacked the party on several occasions, such as last October on France Inter. As usual, the artist expressed his reluctance. While promoting his 40th album FriendsEddy Mitchell did not hide his disenchantment with the current political scene. And he made a clear observation.
Concerning his childhood memories, he revealed on Léa Salamé's microphone: “There was good understanding between the inhabitants of this neighborhood. Jews, Arabs, French, Italians… There was a real complicity, a climate of mutual aid and solidarity.”
But several decades later, everything changed. To make his citizen voice heard, he moved to the voting booth. “Before I didn't vote and now I vote against the National Rally, because I am against these people“, he clarified with his legendary frankness.
According to Eddy Mitchell, “it wasn’t better before”
Eddy Mitchell then expressed his thoughts: “I believe that there are parties that got involved, which are not extraordinary by the way… People don't change, it's the environment that changes, it's because we pit them against each other.” he explained.
However, the singer felt that “It wasn’t better before.” “There was the Algerian war (…) and De Gaulle who completely pissed us off and who forced us, the young people, to join the army. Because when we did our military service, we also went to Algeria , and it was serious“he concluded, thus brushing aside any feeling of nostalgia for the past…
