It is a figure from “old-time TV” who is disappearing: the host Jean-Pierre Descombes, who presented the very popular show The 8 p.m. Gameson FR3, from 1976 to 1987, died at the age of 76, Sunday June 30, 2024, his son announced to AFP on Monday.

He died at his home from Parkinson’s disease, a neurological illness he had suffered from for more than ten years, according to his son Romain Descombes.

A long-term career

After The 8pm GamesJean-Pierre Descombes had been the voice-over for other successful entertainment shows in the 1980s and 90s, The right price et A gold family on TF1.

From 2018, he participated in Cyril Hanouna’s broadcasts on C8, such as Do not touch My TV ! or The big laugh.

But Jean-Pierre Descombes remains best known for The 8pm Gamesborn at a time when there were only three channels in France.
