The couple met for the first time on November 13, 2007. At the time, Nicolas Sarkozy was President and had just divorced Cécilia Attias, his wife since 1996, with whom he had a son, Louis. In his book The time of fighting (published in 2023 by Éd. Fayard), the politician said that Jacques Séguéla had organized a dinner and invited the singer and top model, because “he found that a President alone did not create good press”. “Carla would have said to him: “I would never shake this man’s hand for anything in the world.” And the advertiser retorts: “You’re wrong, in twenty minutes, he will seduce you.”

In the podcast, Nicolas Sarkozy looks back on his writings, and jokes: “no no, twenty minutes is too long”. He then recounts the evening. “I had never seen Carla before, I came into the room, I looked, she blushed slightly, I left with her from dinner, after speaking to no one. And two and a half months later we were married.” The couple celebrated their union on February 2, 2008, in the strictest privacy.
