This Sunday, November 24, “A Sunday in the Country” celebrates its 50th issue on France 2. For the occasion, Frédéric Lopez brought together an exceptional line-up composed of Dany Boon, Virginie Grimaldi and Kendji Girac. The latter will address a delicate subject in the show: a serious accident that occurred last April, in tragic circumstances. The accident in question shocked fans of the 28-year-old singer. After a domestic dispute, he accidentally shot himself and was hospitalized. This testimony in “A Sunday in the Country” is a first for the artist revealed by “The Voice”, who had until now been very discreet about this event.
“We cannot not talk about this news item”
Invited on the set of “C à vous” this Thursday, November 21, Frédéric Lopez confided that Kendji Girac had decided to talk about this event without any pressure from production. “In fact, you know that my collaborators have the guests on the phone for between an hour, three hours sometimes, to ask them questions about what they have not yet said in the press. And the first question we ask them is: 'Is there a subject you don't want to discuss?'. And we respect all that“, detailed the host.
The artist had not mentioned this accident during these preliminary discussions, and the presenter did not know if he would choose to mention it. “It's true that at the moment we meet, I don't know at all, since we meet in front of the cameras, what he will choose to do. And I say something very sincere: I say, basically, we cannot not talk about this news item, because you were in the news item section. We don't wish that on anyone.” Finally, Kendji Girac decided himself to confide in this significant event: “It turns out he chose to talk about it. Indeed, you will see what he said, but it really touched me.” Puremédias invites you to discover the extract in the video above.

Frédéric Lopez, however, stressed that their pre-existing bond had perhaps facilitated this exchange. Indeed, the two men had already shared a strong experience during the filming of “Rendez-vous en terre stranger” in Kenya, last March. “This accident made me very sad, especially after spending time with him. I had discovered someone pure and caring, who had touched the team and the people of Kenya, without them knowing that he was a star here. When we learned what had happened to him, we were devastated. We didn't have any news because he had changed his cell phone.“, confided the host in “Culture Médias” on Europe 1.
A climate conducive to confidences
The filming of “A Sunday in the Country” thus allowed the host and Kendji Girac to meet again for the first time since the tragedy. “I told him we couldn't ignore what happened. But I completely understood if he preferred not to talk about it. His decision to discuss this episode shows great confidence“, he added. “From the start, they are asked which topics they prefer to avoid. This establishes a climate of trust“, explained the presenter at a press conference, interviewed by “Télé 7 jours”.Then, the natural environment, far from stress and phones, allows for real relaxation. They understand that the objective is not to expose them, but to transmit something universal, which could help others“, he concludes.
