Charles III was crowned king during a ceremony at Westminster Abbey. A grandiose event which was followed around the world and which required careful organization.
A few months earlier, Queen Elizabeth II took her last breath at the age of 96. After his death, ten days of national mourning were decreed. In total, his funeral was later estimated at £161.7 million. An extremely high amount which was then followed by that of the coronation of his eldest son.

Charles III's coronation estimated at £72 million
For her coronation, Camilla's husband decided to
reduce your plansbeing “cost conscious” for the British. According to the Daily Expresstaxpayers spent £72 million. An amount which therefore represents less than half of that spent on the queen's funeral.
In total, £21.7 million were spent by the Ministry of the Interior to ensure the maintenance of order during the event. The rest, either
£50.3 millionwas spent by the DCMS (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) and funded by the Treasury, according to the annual report of the DCMS, which was responsible for organizing the coronation.
The cost of the event is explained by its historic nature
If the coronation of King Charles III is an event estimated to cost several tens of millions of pounds sterling, it is because it was a
historical moment. The DCMS has also described it as “a once-in-a-generation moment that provided an opportunity for the whole country to come together in celebration and offered a unique opportunity to celebrate and strengthen our national identity and showcase the United Kingdom to the world”.
For three days, the British celebrated this highly anticipated event. The day after the coronation,
a big lunch was organized in the streets and
a concert was held in the evening. Finally, the third day was marked by a day dedicated to volunteer activities.
