His name may not ring a bell, but you’ve certainly seen him many times on the small or big screen. Bill Cobbs died at the age of 90 in the Californian city of Riverside. After forty-nine years of acting, he played his last role in 2023 in the British mini-series Incandescent Love.
A remarkable career
On television, the actor had landed roles in numerous TV films, and had made numerous appearances in cult series throughout the ages, such as Les Experts, Walker, Texas Ranger, Les Soprano, or Six Feet Under, Les Médiums, JAG, American Wives, but also the One Tree Hill, Marvel: Agents of SHIELD, New York Police Blues… In cinema, he played in 1984 under the direction of Francis Ford Coppola in Cotton Club then by Martin Scorsese in 1986 in The Color of MoneyTen years later, he starred opposite Tom Hanks in That thing you do!directed by Tom Hanks himself. In the 2010s, he starred in The fantastic world of Oz et The Muppets, the return.
His brother pays tribute to him
It was his brother, Thomas G. Cobbs, who shared the news of his passing on Facebook on Wednesday, the day after the actor’s death: “We are very sad to announce the passing of Bill Cobbs. On Tuesday, June 25, Bill passed away peacefully at his home in California. A beloved companion, big brother, uncle, surrogate parent, godfather and friend, Bill recently celebrated his 90th birthday joyously, surrounded by his beloved family.
