Kate and William: the real reason they left their London home

Two years ago, Kate and William moved from their lavish four-storey, 20-room apartment at Kensington Palace to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. Much more modest, the property only has four bedrooms and does not even have space to accommodate members of staff. So, this choice raises the question: why did the family leave what they were used to in London to move to “less good”?

Certainly, some would already dream of owning a four-bedroom house in a pretty English countryside. But, given royal standards, one might wonder. The explanation for this choice is however simple, rational, and, ultimately, almost universal.

Kate and William want to lead a normal family life

Although royal, the Wales family remains a family. And, like all families, she had a basic need: privacy. Royal author Katie Nichol told OK! that it was this need that pushed the future heirs to the throne to move to Windsor Cottage. The couple formed by Kate and William simply want to give their children as normal an education as possible, far from prying eyes and some 400,000 annual visitors to Kensington Palace.

So, even if the cottage doesn't have a lot of space, it fills “all the required conditions”. “They could have moved to many other places, but Adelaide Cottage fits their parents' desire to be a normal family, without servants and 30 rooms. William much prefers to have his children around him, in the rooms next to the one where he sleeps” explained to OK! Duncan Larcombe, royal expert.

“They are very, very happy there”

The expert went on to state another advantage: the fact that the cottage is just a 15-minute drive from Lambrook, the children's school, and less than an hour's drive from the Middletons' family home, Bucklebury, Berkshire. “The proximity to the school and Kate’s parents makes it an absolutely ideal location”he said.

Katie Nicholl completes affirming that the parents of George, Charlotte and Louis do not regret their decision. Quite the contrary: “They are very, very happy there. Being able to live in the middle of Windsor Home Park, where they are not neglected and can come and go in complete privacy, justifies on every level downsizing their accommodation compared to Kensington Palace. »
