The hit, which was number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (which ranks the best songs of the moment in the United States), is based on the song Pretty Little Ditty from the rock group the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The latter also invited Crazy Town to open for them in 1999.

Butterfly was also used in the romantic comedy Tout peut arriver (Something’s Gotta Give in English) with Keanu Reeves, Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson, released in 2003.

However, it is the only big success of the group, which fails to establish itself with its second album Darkhorse. In 2003, the group separated, then reformed in 2007. A third album was released in 2015, but Bret Mazur left the group which changed its name in 2017 to become Crazy Town X. Seth Binzer had also had addiction problems and appeared on reality TV Celebrity Rehab (“Celebrities in Rehab”).
