The return of the party. After the cancellation of the 2023 edition in Paris for security reasons, the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMA) are finally back! It was this Sunday, November 10 that the 30th edition of the ceremony took place in the brand new Manchester venue, Co-op Live, and hosted by Rita Ora. For the occasion, more than 20,000 fans applauded the many explosive performances, including that of Benson Boone. Opening the evening seated at a piano suspended in the air (like Santa!), the American sensation then multiplied the somersaults and vocal flights on the hit “Beautiful Things”. In the middle of the crowd, Teddy Swims also gave vocals on “Lose Control”, and Shawn Mendes made his gentle comeback after several years of absence with “Heart of Gold”. If some were waiting for Oasis, Manchester obliges, it was ultimately the Pet Shop Boys who played the nostalgia card. Accompanied by a symphony orchestra, the legendary English pop duo concluded the evening with their big hit “West End Girls”. But what about the winners of these MTV EMA 2024?

Taylor Swift takes it all, Tyla and Eminem sacred!
Unsurprisingly, Taylor Swift is the big winner of the evening. Absent because of the last part of her “Eras Tour”, the superstar won four awards for her hit “Fortnight”, crowned Best Music Video, and also won the awards for Best Artist, Concert and American Artist. The other big surprise winner is Tyla! The singer of the hit “Water” won the awards for Best R&B, Afrobeats and African Artist. Also well positioned in the race for statuettes, Sabrina Carpenter stood out thanks to the huge summer hit “Espresso”, crowned in the Song of the Year category.
Raye also won the Best British Artist award. Accompanied by 30 backing singers, the singer shone with a performance on the wire, and triggered real ovations every time her name was pronounced in the Co-op Arena! As you will have understood, it was the female artists who shone during this evening, also marked by the fiery performances of the Mexican rockers of The Warning and the K-pop group Le Sserafim. Among the other winners, we can cite Eminem, Imagine Dragons, Benson Boone, Liam Gallagher (absent despite a home ceremony), Lisa or Ariana Grande, best pop artist. There was also emotion when presenter Rita Ora couldn't hold back her tears while paying tribute to Liam Payne, with whom she collaborated on the single “For You” in 2018.
Pierre Garnier celebrated in France
Just like the Pet Shop Boys with the Pop Pionners trophy, rapper Busta Ryhmes received the honorary Global Icon award, before delivering a punchy performance. What about the best French artist? One year after Bigflo & Oli, Pierre Garnier won the prize, awarded thanks to public votes. In other countries, Sia (Australia), Pabllo Vittar (Brazil), Zara Larsson (Nordic Countries), Shawn Mendes (Canada) and Nemo (Switzerland) also won.
