Lionel Messi: the footballer has bad memories of his time in Paris, “they were annoying us”

He left Paris Saint-Germain in June 2023. After two seasons with the Parisian club, Messi had made the decision to move away from his teammates, to subsequently join David Beckham’s club, Inter Miami. “The club would like to warmly thank the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, winner under the Red and Blue colors of a Champions Trophy and two French championship titles”wrote PSG in a press release.

“Thank you to the club, to the city of Paris and to its inhabitants for these two years. I wish them the best for the future,”
the Argentinian reacted. But now the footballer did not hesitate to confide his discomfort when he was a PSG player.

Lionel Messi does not have good memories of his life in Paris

In an interview with ESPN, the player spoke about his time in the French capital. “In Paris, someone rang my doorbell at 9 or 10 in the evening to tell me that children should not play ball. The neighbors were bothering us so we wouldn’t make noise,” he says, with regret. “I have nothing against them but unfortunately it didn’t happen the way they and I wanted. It had a big impact on my state of mind and it carried over onto the pitch. In Paris, on a personal level, I was not well”he confides.

If the player could return to Paris for the 2024 Olympics, the French will not see him soon. “I spoke with (Argentina Espoirs coach) Javier Mascherano, and we immediately agreed on the situation. It’s a difficult moment, because there is the Copa America, and that would give me two or three consecutive months away from my club. At my age, I don’t want to play everything, and I have to make the right choices.

“I wasn’t happy”

This is not the first time that Lionel Messi openly criticizes PSG and his life in Paris. Indeed, in the Spanish media, he indicated that he did not have good memories of his time in France. “I wasn’t happy, I wasn’t having fun, and it affected my family life”he said.

His former teammate, Neymar had hit the nail on the head. “He went to heaven with Argentina, he won everything in recent years, and with Paris he went through hell, we went through hell, him and I.”
