Gad Elmaleh admits that he was wrong to make music: “It’s not because we’re passionate about something…”

Gad Elmaleh was the guest of Telematin on 2 with this Tuesday, November 5, 2024. And the comedian came to promote “Himself”his new one-man show that he will perform at the Dôme de from January 28 to February 15, 2025.

He took the opportunity to look back on his small career in music, in 2020. That year, the performer of “Little bird if you don't have wings“, measured himself against a legend. He released an album of Claude Nougaro covers, which he titled “Dance on me” named after a flagship title in the French jazzman's discography.

Gad Elmaleh on his music career

And Gad Elmaleh admitted that he had made a mistake. Indeed, this Wednesday, he estimated: “I believe that it's very complicated when you're a comedian to write songs seriously. And I'm not one of the people who say 'in France'”. A point of view that must also be shared by his colleague, Elie Semoun, who is a fan of bossa nova.

Gad Elmaleh does not hold grudges with the public, however, and does not want to fall into bitterness. He argues: “In France, there are people who do very different things. There are tennis players who release albums.” But also, he said: “There are rappers who play in the cinema. There are singers who do theater, there are actors who make albums”.

As for his essay, he draws this conclusion : “I think I have to bring humor if I make music and there wasn't enough humor in my opinion. Even when I see myself there again. It's good, it's fair. I like music”.

The truth is that Gad Elmaleh was out of his element. He says thus: “There, I had directors, great musicians and I was intimidated actually. This is not my world.”.

And to add that moreover: It's not because we're passionate about something that we will be able to share it”.

He gave up on the piano

However, Gad Elmaleh does not close the door to a musical comeback. However, he specifies: “I believe that if I do a musical project again, I'm not saying it will be funny, but I will be released in any case”.

The song is okay, but the piano, he has already given up on it. And to conclude: “I would have liked to be a jazz pianist. I never will be, I leave that to the great musicians that I admire”. Damage.
