Bambou, last companion of Serge Gainsbourg and mother of Lulu, thought she was sterile: “I didn’t have periods”

On the airwaves of Inter this Tuesday, November 5, 2024, Léa Salamé received Bambou, Caroline Elisabeth Paulus of her real name and former model. Serge Gainsbourg's last companion, aged 65, was on the air to talk about his highly autobiographical work, Step by step in the nightpublished by XO. She returned to her experience at the microphone of the journalist and host, focusing in particular on the birth of her son with the icon, Lulu.

Serge Gainsbourg, already father of Natacha (1964) and Paul (1967), conceived with Françoise-Antoinette Pancrazzi, and of Charlotte, once again became a father with the birth in 1986 of the child carried by Bambou. The couple named him Lucien – Serge Gainsbourg's real first name – but he was often called Lulu. An arrival that turns Bambou’s life upside down.

If at first Léa Salamé indicates that she did not want it in view of the very difficult childhood that she experienced herself, her guest adds: “I thought I was sterile, since I didn't have a period. And I get pregnant. I didn't know it, we were coming back from Africa and I thought I had caught amoebas. With the blood tests, I am told that I am actually pregnant.

Lulu Gainsbourg transcends the life of Bambou who finally discovers happiness. A child who grew up surrounded by music and he started playing the piano at the age of 5 and twenty years later, he was accepted into Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2007, in order to become a professional musician , composer and arranger.

Physically, Lulu Gainsbourg is difficult to distinguish who the man, now 38 years old and in a relationship for more than ten years with the lyricist Aurélie Bossu, most resembles. But he did indeed follow his father's path by thriving through music. If his notoriety is less compared to that, overwhelming, of his father, he is paving his way and has just revealed his new title, ELLE.

Fusion with her dear Lulu, Bambou also continues her journey, honoring the memory of Serge Gainsbourg and accompanying that of their beloved son, now living in Portugal. A discreet mother-son duo that we saw appear together in a thirty-year-old story on the occasion of his mother's birthday on March 1st. A flawless bond that lasts!
