Gérard and Manu Lanvin expected in Issoire: “We are here to make people happy”

The “big” training will be Saturday October 12 at Animatis d’Issoire (Puy-de-Dôme). Manu and Gérard Lanvin will be accompanied by seven or eight musicians for their last performance of the year.

To say that Gérard Lanvin is at the top of the bill is an understatement. Because, if the actor (Walk in the shade, Camping) multiplies the promotional moments for the latest film by Fabien Onteniente, Four zeros (released October 23) of which he is one of the main characters (with Isabelle Nanty or Didier Bourdon), the singer figures prominently in the program of the Issoire cultural season. On October 12, we will find him at Animatis to perform Ici-Bas, an album “rock shot tinged with blues”. His son, Manu Lanvin, composer, arranger and musician, talks to us about this unpublished opus.

“I have trouble defining my music”

Let’s talk about you. You are a singer-songwriter and have devoted many years to music. Let’s say that I filled the first part of my life with music with my numerous groups. We have made great albums and we will continue to make them.

Music, circus, moods and humor: what does the Animatis room have in store for the public next season in Issoire?

With blues and rock as a common thread? Do we have to put labels? But quite honestly, I have a hard time defining my music. Indeed, I am very inspired by rock and blues. But I think that the Devil Blues project, which I am currently defending on stage, is a mixture of all the authentic music I listened to when I was a teenager. There is also soul or pop. I wanted to make music to play live, so I always try, in the studio, to construct music that we can perform on stage. The goal is to get people moving and bring positive vibes.Father and son will share the stage. Photo Patrick Swirc
How was this album project born with your father? Initially, it was to have fun during confinement. But we didn’t think we would achieve such success and that this project would have a life on stage. We are really happy to continue to defend this album and to see that there is this public demand to see my father in this exercise.

“My father always rewrote his dialogues”

More than singing, your father also wrote the lyrics for this album. Does he have a good pen? My father always rewrote his dialogues. He has an ease with catchphrases. And above all, a vision of society with its phrasing and words that I wanted to share with as many people as possible. I found it interesting to take all these notebooks and make an album rather than being on television sets delivering punchlines.

Was it easy working with your father? Yes. I wouldn’t have done it otherwise. We did it without obligation, because no one was expecting us. We wanted to build something together. Initially, he wanted to record one or two songs, then he got into the game and we made an album which worked very well: the first week of release, it found itself in the top 5 of sales in the middle of rappers. It was improbable!

More than this album where Gérard writes and sings, then Manu composes and arranges, you have also played on numerous stages for three years. We tour a lot. My father’s main activity remains cinema, but when there is a place in his schedule, we take him on tour.

Other dates next year

With a real ambition to share? Yes, I hope. Our only ambition is to make people happy and have a good time by getting away from reality with a little music.8f03fd50d9.jpgThe album received great success. Photo Patrick Swirc

The date of Saturday October 12 in Issoire will be the last of the year with your father. Will the project resume afterwards? You never know, but I think there should be more dates next year.

“With Animatis, the world comes to me”: why they have subscribed to the Issoire performance hall from the start

And another musical project together? I think rarity determines the price of things. I believe that this album must remain unique. Because, if you do a second, then a third, it becomes a profession. It was a nice parenthesis and it must remain a nice parenthesis.

Practical. Gérard and Manu Lanvin in concert Saturday October 12 at 8:30 p.m. at Animatis. Tickets: €35 (€31, reduced), free pass: €17, subscriber: €28. Online ticketing at www.issoire.fr.
