Located north of Sunset Boulevard, this 5,000-square-foot Hollywood Regency-style home had four bedrooms and five bathrooms. The 2,830 square meter estate, secured by a perimeter wall and iron gates, offered a vast brick-paved driveway, a terrace with swimming pool, a hot tub, a cabana, as well as a tennis court in sunken with six seats. Built in 1954 by architect John Elgin Woolf, the single-story home was notable for its high ceilings, large windows, dormer windows, and included a library, bar, formal dining room, breakfast room, breakfast, as well as fireplaces in the living room and master bedroom. Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell lived there during lockdown before settling into their new dream home in Pasadena, California.

The Pasadena House

The Emmy nominee made one of her most notable purchases of 2021, acquiring a historic home in Pasadena from Kristen Wiig for $3.5 million. The former member of Saturday Night Live bought this property in 2017 for 2.7 million euros. The house is part of the Case Study Houses program, launched in 1945 by the magazine Arts + Architecture. This program aimed to design and build low-cost model homes, in anticipation of the housing boom expected after soldiers returned home at the end of World War II.

This Midcentury home, nestled among sycamore trees, was built in 1947 by father and son architect duo Kemper Nomland and Kemper Nomland Jr. It has four bedrooms and four bathrooms. On their first visit, Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell immediately knew they had found their future home. “We looked at each other and we knew; words were useless »confided the actress to Vogue.

With the help of interior designer Emily Farnham, the couple renovated the 318 square meter home with a style the actress describes as “mid-century California meets Scandinavia”a tribute to their affection for the Nordic way of life. “We imagined this house before we even started putting down roots in Scandinavia”explained Lily Collins. In 2023, she and Charlie McDowell bought two houses in Copenhagen. “It was almost an avant-garde vision, because we didn’t yet realize that we would be immersed in this culture years later. »

This single-storey home, set on a 1,485 square meter plot, features large floor-to-ceiling windows and concrete flooring, while warm, earthy tones give it a modern feel. A swimming pool and spa were added in 2014, while a detached guest house includes a bed and bathroom.
