Françoise Hardy: Thomas Dutronc embarrassed on Canal+, he cleverly extricates himself from an intimate question

This is sad news that was announced on June 11. Françoise Hardy died at the age of 80. Icon of French song, she left behind an immense void in the hearts of her admirers, her loved ones but especially Thomas Dutronc, her son. This Wednesday, October 9, he was the guest on the show In Apartbroadcast on Canal+. The latter was answering Nathalie Lévy’s questions when one of them particularly bothered him. “Do you say “I love you” easily? Did she tell you?” asks the journalist.

Thomas Dutronc first responded: “Oh yes…” before stopping, stuttering a few words then continuing:
“When you say “I love you easily”, I imagined myself at the bakery. “Can I have a pain au chocolat? I love you”. In his own way, Françoise Hardy’s son managed to dodge an intimate question that embarrassed him, showing humor. “We can say “I love you” like that to people who do nice things to us, someone who smiles at you in the street. It’s perhaps a little excessive, we risk finding ourselves locked in,” he confided.

Thomas Dutronc: “Yes we said…”

After beating around the bush, using different stratagems to move on, Thomas Dutronc finally stated: “yes, we said “I love you”, of course. There was no modesty at that level.” He then confides that it is rather on the Dutronc side that there is a certain modesty. “We don’t talk much about things that really matter, but sometimes we express ourselves through silence, through unsaid things”he explained. If Françoise Hardy had no problem expressing her love to her son, this is not necessarily the case for Jacques Dutronc.

During this interview, Thomas Dutronc spoke about his mother in complete transparency. “Has Françoise Hardy been able to listen to your new album?” asked Nathalie Levy. For his part, the main person concerned first responded: “No unfortunately” before providing details:
“When I made my first album and sang on it, my first two parents didn’t know I sang.” If Françoise Hardy could give good advice, it was better to wait until everything was finished before introducing her to it.

Thomas Dutronc: “She will listen to him from up there”

Françoise Hardy has always been a great support for her son. However, Thomas Dutronc affirms that she had some requirements.
“My mother, it was better to let her listen to it once everything was finished and mixed”he declared before adding:
“She was very instinctive when it came to songs. If you played her a demo, she couldn’t imagine the potential of the song. His new album, Thomas Dutronc is very proud of it but he only has one regret: that his mother was not able to listen to it. “It’s too late. She will listen to it from up there,” he concluded.
