King Charles III and Queen Camilla participated in the celebration of the quarter century of the Scottish Parliament this Saturday in Edinburgh. The British sovereign gave a speech to MPs, recalling how much his family cherished Scotland.

King Charles III participated in the special anniversary session of the Scottish Parliament, at Holyrood Palace, this Saturday, September 28, 2024. The parliament occupies this palace located in Edinburgh, a building which also serves as the official residence of the sovereign. King Charles III, who wore a kilt for the occasion, attended the event with Queen Camilla.
In 1998 and 1999, the nations of the United Kingdom each had a parliament, except England. The first sitting of the Scottish Parliament was held on 12 May 1999. The Parliament has 128 MPs. This assembly can pass laws specific to Scotland, in certain jurisdictions.
This Saturday, King Charles III visited the Scottish Parliament to deliver a speech to mark his 25th birthday. This is already Charles’ sixth visit to this assembly, while Elizabeth II had made ten visits since 1999. “On a personal level, Scotland has always held a particularly special place in my family’s hearts and mine.”said King Charles in his speech.
“My beloved grandmother was proudly Scottish, my late mother particularly cherished her time at Balmoral, and it was there, in the place most loved, that she chose to spend her final days. » His grandmother was Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, daughter of the Scottish Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne. As for Elizabeth II, she died in September 2022 during her summer stay at Balmoral Castle. King Charles paid tribute to the “natural beauty” of Scotland, to its “strength of character”, to the “diversity of its people”to his “passions and often deeply rooted beliefs”.
