The tenth episode of Koh-Lanta, The Immunity Hunters was on the theme of linked destinies. This is how the 10 candidates in the running formed 5 pairs, for better and for worse. At the council, when Sébastien was eliminated, he dragged his comrade Aurélien with him. Near Purepeople.com, the carpenter of the former yellow team talks about his adventure. The strategies, the rather harsh living conditions, his altercation with Julie shortly before his elimination, his weight loss… Sébastien confides without filter.

Why do you think your comrades voted against you?

At that time, I think they voted against me because there is a new alliance. Amri moved closer to Meïssa. Pauline simply wants to save her place and that’s normal. Léa has been in a relationship with Pauline since the beginning, I understand that she wants to save her. As for Julie, we still had a lot of confusion in the morning so that’s logical too.

Pauline and Léa explain that they did it reluctantly, to follow their partner’s strategy. What do you think ?

I understand their way of thinking. They want to save their place and move forward. They had, I think, no other choice. Because they knew very well that it was either Aurélien and me, or Pauline and Meïssa.

Amri explains that he voted against you because by denouncing Meïssa you, in turn, jeopardized his strategy. What do you think ?

I didn’t understand, his explanations are, in my opinion, not understandable. Because in our speech, we don’t really wet it. The ex-reds are in the majority, a traitor is denounced among them. They are the ones who have the power, so if they want to make a useful vote they just have to vote against Meïssa. I thought that Amri and Meïssa’s alliance consisted of defending the ex-yellows. In fact, what I didn’t know was that Amri had turned his back on us.

At the council, Meïssa does not take responsibility. What do you think of this behavior?

Meïssa’s problem is that in reality, the people with whom he had the adventure from the start, he had nothing to do with it. He doesn’t even have respect for them. It’s not even a guy who moved around the camp. What he wanted was to move forward as quickly as possible without looking to the sides.

Why do you think he reacted this way to the council?

He hid his betrayal. He tried to get out of it by lying to us. It’s not something I would have dared to do. Personally, it’s not in my values.

Before the council, Aurélien makes the decision to throw the alliance of Amri and Meïssa to the ex-reds. Why not have been there with him?

We decided to do it together. It was our only ball, our only chance to make the ex-reds realize that someone is throwing them away. We had to press on that because otherwise we were in danger, without concession. Aurélien did very well to go see them and tell them everything. We thought they would eliminate Meïssa and that’s it. Besides, I didn’t understand why they voted against Pauline. What we missed was a little more discussion with them.

Earlier in the episode, you had an altercation with Julie. Looking back, what do you think of your reaction?

I have completely lost my patience. I was worn out, tired. We all were. We’ve been arguing about camp stories for some time now. Finally, Julie was cutting sugar cane for the group and she was good at doing it. But at 5 a.m. when everyone is asleep… It’s true that I shouldn’t have spoken to him like that. I would have been better off keeping everything to myself and going to sleep further away.

She says she voted against you because you disrespected her twice. What do you think ?

She’s right, I understand her. I might have done the same in his place. After all, she is red, I am yellow, she has no qualms. Especially since we’ve been arguing a bit for some time now. So it’s normal.

During this episode, you seem on edge, how do you explain it?

Many things played into the balance. The fatigue, the lack of food, the fact that we were in constant danger… The Reds, thanks to Jean, had immunities. So they were calm, they also had immunity collars and were in numerical superiority. We spent our time looking for necklaces, tending the fire, chopping wood… While some of the reds were taking it easy. We didn’t experience the same Koh Lanta.

Two weeks ago, Amri protected Océane while the ex-reds wanted to eliminate him. How did he know?

It was a mixture of deduction and luck. It was a poker game to play. Deduction because we didn’t know who was targeted: me, Amri, a girl… I was assured by Jean that I would not be targeted. And at the same time, we could see that the reds were behaving strangely with Océane. This is what we deduced from.

What did you suffer from the most during the adventure?

Hunger! What I experienced the worst was really the deprivation of food. It was very hard because I thought about it constantly. It was night, day… With fatigue setting in because I slept extremely little since I had to maintain the night. There were a few of us doing it, it didn’t turn out much.

After the game, what was your reaction to seeing yourself in a mirror?

It was a shock the first time I saw myself. It even made me sad. I wondered how I was going to manage to bring back the muscle and the fat. I wasn’t handsome at all. I was a little moved.

How many pounds have you lost?

I lost at least 12 kilos. I returned to my natural weight after a good month and a half. But since I started construction, I lost a little bit again due to the stress and hard work every weekend.

What has changed in your life since then? Koh Lanta ?

I learned to put small problems into perspective. I realized that in France we have everything within reach, we do what we want, we are privileged. When you live in the rough, it’s different. Getting through even the slightest night becomes complicated. I also learned to be patient with my troubles, I gained a little serenity.
