The group had, however, started to release a few unreleased tracks here and there live during its tour in 2022. But no concrete announcement was then made, leaving fans in utter frustration. This is now ancient history since “Songs Of A Lost World” will indeed arrive in stores on November 1st.
The key to the album
For the occasion The Cure has just released a brand new single, Alone. A most important song since it absolutely “unlocked the disk”, revealed Robert Smith (via NME). “As soon as we recorded this track I knew it was the opening song, and I felt the whole album coming together”he explains.
Because no, the composition of “Songs Of A Lost World” was not easy. The singer having regularly been plagued by doubt, he had even thought about abandoning the idea of releasing a record. Giving birth to the first song was therefore a trigger for its realization. The realization that all these years of work were finally going to come to something.

“I struggled to find the perfect opening phrase for the perfect opening song for a while, he admits. Working with the simple idea of ’being alone’, I always had this nagging feeling in the back of my head that I knew what the opening sentence should be.. And to add: “When we finished recording it, I remembered the poem “Dregs” by the English poet Ernest Dowsonand that’s the moment I knew the song — and the album — were real”.
Written and arranged by Robert Smith with the help Paul Corkett in production, already at the helm of “Bloodflowers” in 2000, “Songs Of A Lost World” was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Wales. We will find the usual line up there Simon Gallup (low), Roger O’Donnell (keyboards) and Reeves Gabrels (guitar). Pre-orders for the album are open.
