Alain Delon died at the age of 88. In a statement to AFP, his three children said: “A great wild animal has died, who fascinated and divided at the same time: an icon of cinema, the French actor Alain Delon died at the age of 88 (…) He died peacefully in his house in Douchy, surrounded by his three children and his family. (…) His family asks you to respect his privacy, in this extremely painful time of mourning”.
Quickly, many personalities paid tribute to the iconic actor of Plein soleil, Rocco and his brothers, or even La piscine. A close friend of Anthony Delon, Paul Belmondo quickly spoke out. “Alain, one day you told me that you missed my father, Today, it is you who will be greatly missed. RIP Alain”he wrote on Instagram.
Paul Belmondo: “I don’t know if it’s easier to be Jean-Paul Belmondo’s son”
On Thursday, September 26, 2024, in an interview with Gala, Luana Belmondo’s ex-husband spoke about the disappearance of his father’s long-time friend. “He was a close friend, a family member I knew until he was in his forties. Like many people of my generation, I grew up watching it. He had this particularity, like my father, of being a star who lived through the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. He was present for his funeral. He wanted it. It was his last public appearance. It’s not nothing.”he said.
During this interview, the journalist asked Paul Belmondo if it was easier to be the son of Jean-Paul Belmondo or that of Alain Delon. While the Delon clan has been torn apart for several months, he declared: “I don’t know if it’s easier to be Jean-Paul Belmondo’s son. I don’t think so. I would say that we had a solid family structure : a father, a mother, grandparents, too. Seen from the outside, this is perhaps less true for Alain Delon”.

Shortly after Alain Delon’s death, the father of three children had already spoken to BFMTV. Moved, he remembered someone who was whole, who deeply loved his father, Jean-Paul Belmondo. “He was someone who could touch you in a very strong way. One day, he called me on the phone to tell me how much he missed my father and how lonely he felt. That was also Alain Delon. (…) He was lonely, but that didn’t stop him from loving people anyway.“he had indicated.
For Le Parisien, Paul Belmondo added: “It’s going to be a big loss for everyone, for his family. And of course, it connects me to my father since they have made their careers side by side all their lives and they leave almost at the same time one summer. So of course, it connects me to him“.
