Grand Duke Henri and his wife first posed alongside their guests before showing them around the palace library. To receive, Grand Duchess Maria-Teresa opted for a green dress fitted at the waist by Carolina Herrera. Queen Mathilde followed in her hostess’ footsteps by also wearing a Carolina Herrera dress in fuchsia white tones, an outfit she accessorized with a short-sleeved bolero by the Belgian brand Natan.
Mathilde and Maria Teresa laughing in a golf cart
After the working discussions, Maria Teresa took charge of showing the places to the wives of the heads of state. And for the occasion, the Grand Duchess had opted for an original means of transport. No more comings and goings in heels on the gravel: make way for the golf cart in tennis shoes and ballet flats! A trip that visibly amused Queen Mathilde, seated next to Maria Teresa. The two sovereigns indeed maintain a strong relationship and see each other regularly, given the proximity of their two countries.
A reconciliation between Harry and Charles III would be beneficial for the Crown, according to a friend of the royal family.
Mathilde, Sophie and Maria Teresa were then able to join their husbands to attend a cello concert given within the walls of the palace. This first evening then concluded with a private dinner where the dress code visibly required wearing black and white, the Grand Duchess wearing a black jumpsuit from Alexander McQueen while the Queen of Belgium remained faithful to the Natan couturier by wearing an all-white ensemble.
The Grand Duchess Daring at University
For the second day of the summit, the leaders and their wives left the gilded palace for the university benches, visiting the Belval campus, very close to the French border. On the agenda: discussion on the risks of disinformation, visit to the university library and discovery of the site.
Princess Alexia of the Netherlands re-wears her mother’s dress… 22 years later
In terms of her look, Mathilde once again honored Belgian fashion by opting for an all-black outfit that highlighted her beige coat by Brussels designer Esmeralda Amoun. Maria Teresa, for her part, opted for originality by mixing a sequined skirt and a faux leather jacket. Two items in gray tones by Natan.
The heads of state then left at the end of the day, not without making a date to meet again next year for the 21st German-speaking summit which will take place in Switzerland. The Grand Duchess and Queen Mathilde should however have the opportunity to meet again before, in order to maintain the beautiful complicity which already binds them.
