This is probably the first official look at this small electric SUV called Kama Atom. In preparation since 2021, a prototype has finally been revealed. It's rare enough to point out that it comes from a Russian manufacturer. Its market launch is expected to take place in 2025.
A Russian electric car, but a little Chinese
The Russian automobile market has been paralyzed since the escalation of the war in Ukraine. Most Western countries have cut off supplies to Russia, but Moscow has resources. It can count on the help of Chinese equipment manufacturers. And in particularAtom Automotive Engineering and Technologya company based in the city of Nanjing, the Russian start-up Kama has just presented a new electric model.
To develop its battery car, the company obtained significant funding from the Russian Investment Fund. A concept was presented in 2023, but the prototype revealed a few days ago is quite different. Besides, we don't really know if this is the production version of the concept or another vehicle. Called Kama Atom, the model has a false air of MG4. But it is taller and seems longer.
Who will want it? Not many people
At the front we see a pair of LED headlights which appear to be connected by a light bar. The Atom looks rather intriguing. It also reminds a little of the BYD Seagull. Technical details are not known at this time. The Russian firm has not communicated about the autonomy and performance of its future model. We also don't know how powerful the engine it will be equipped with will be.
It turns out that this is not the brand's first attempt. This summer, it discreetly presented a new electric sedan called Lightning. We also learned that a minivan version of the Atom is in the works. It remains to be seen in which markets the company will succeed in selling its electric vehicle. China already has a substantial supply and Western countries no longer deal with Russia.
