A new building housing servers and offices for the IT service of the canton’s public and parapublic communities and entities was inaugurated on Monday in Neuchâtel.
The objective of the project – the credit for which was voted in 2016 by the Grand Council – was to create two new machine rooms (data center). The first has been in operation for several years in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The second is now housed in a new building at rue des Cadolles 9 in Neuchâtel, making it possible to replace the three existing rooms, which have become obsolete.
The new building has a surface area of 3230 m2including 1250 m2 for the data center and 850 m2 for offices. The rest is intended for circulation spaces, storage rooms and technical shafts.

These new premises make it possible to physically regroup the IT department of the Neuchâtel entity (SIEN), formed in 2019 and until now dispersed across several sites. “This will make it possible to consolidate support for users and promote integrated and harmonized solutions,” we can read in the press release.
This project is the result of a partnership with the Cantonal Insurance and Prevention Establishment (ECAP), which made it possible to finance the purchase of the Cadolles 7 site, as well as the construction of the Cadolles 9 data center. ECAP, this operation completes the real estate portfolio held as part of the investment of its reserves.
“With the commissioning of the Cadolles 9 building and the renovation of other buildings in the canton, ECAP will have almost achieved its objective of placing 30% of its reserves in stone,” it is specified.
