Who could resist the temptation to save money? However, don't trust all the so-called “good deals”, especially if the tip concerns your electricity bill. Some French people have learned the lesson the hard way. Indeed, scammers are getting rich off the backs of users by tampering with Linky meters.

Alarming testimony on Linky meter fraud

The TF1 newspaper reveals explosive news. In fact, investigators managed to collect the testimony of a scammer who attacks Linky meters. The latter agreed to tell all the tricks of this scam which causes mass victims. Of course, the informant insisted on remaining anonymous.

This man began his fraudulent activity in the hope of making ends meet. He even invested 1500 euros in a formation to succeed in his scam. Another offender actually provides courses to teach other people how to tamper with a Linky meter.

The one who spoke to TF1 claims to have no basis as an electrician and even less on the device. However, he goes to people's homes to “adjust” their Linky meter. In fact, he is a mechanic who earns more than 3,000 euros net per month. In other words, it was an ordinary gentleman who grasped an opportunity to put butter on your spinachto the detriment of others.

The system used by scammers is perfectly established. In fact, an average user has no way of spotting a counterfeiter arriving at their home. In addition, at the end of the “work” carried out on the Linky meter, some scammers place a seal bearing the Enedis label. Obviously, it is a fake that they got on the internet.

How do these thugs operate?

For their fraudulent scheme, offenders contact their targets in various ways. Some use new technologies, particularly the internet, to attract their victims. They publish a announcement or participate in forums specialized who talk about Linky meters. Others canvass direct by presenting their arguments with technical terms to better confuse their listeners.

Then, the scammers wait for their future victims to contact them. If they do, the so-called electricians arrive and pretend to “adjust” the Linky meters. At first glance, their intervention will have made it possible to reduce consumption of a household of 70%. Instead of 2500VA, the meter will only show 750VA.

However, these impressive declines are purely superficial. After their “intervention”, the scammers ask for a fee of at least 350 euros. For their part, professionals must pay approximately 600 euros. The witness claims that this fraud on Linky meters earns him between 2000 and 3000 euros per month.

Significant penalties for Linky meter fraudsters

Those who engage in this illegal activity favor low-income or even struggling households. They convince them that their proposal will lower their interlocutors' electricity bills. They obviously do not mention the illegal nature of these manipulations carried out on Linky meters.
