The compact SUV segment is extremely popular, and competition is very strong. Volkswagen has already made a presence in this category with the Tiguan for several years. However, for the 2025 model year, the German manufacturer will arrive on the North American market with its Tiguan of 3e generation. For the occasion, we will be entitled to a completely revised vehicle. I had the opportunity to discover it a few weeks ago and I can now tell you about it.
A new generation
The 2025 model year will mark the 16e anniversary of the Volkswagen Tiguan on North American soil. For the occasion, the German manufacturer will offer us a 3e
completely revised generation. The latter will also be based on a new platform called MQB evo. We can therefore say that, in 2025, Volkswagen erases everything and starts its Tiguan again on new bases. With this new generation, Volkswagen is banking on the driving pleasure found on the Tiguan from 1re generation.
A new exterior design
In 2025, the Volkswagen Tiguan presents itself with a completely new design. The body lines have nothing to do with the outgoing generation. This time, the German manufacturer opts for slightly more rounded lines. However, we still mention that the hood is slightly less plunging than that of its predecessor, which gives a little more presence to the vehicle. In terms of dimensions, the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan gets a shorter rear overhang and benefits from a slight increase in its wheelbase.
Who says new model also says new choice of wheels; the full 2025 Tiguan lineup is no exception. The Trendline version will be fitted with 17-inch wheels, while the Comfortline version will benefit from 18-inch wheels. As for it, the R-Line version will be equipped with 20-inch wheels, for a sportier look.
A redesigned interior
Like the exterior, the interior of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan has been completely revised. This 3e
generation says goodbye to the possibility of a 3e row of seats and is now only offered in a 5-seat configuration. In terms of presentation, Volkswagen is going for something more modern and up to date. In front of the driver, there is a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, as standard. For its part, the infotainment system benefits from a 12.9-inch screen as standard with the most recent MIB4 system. The general presentation of the dashboard has also been revised and includes new applications in its presentation. Another change, the gear selector between the two front seats disappears and is now integrated on an arm in the steering column.
This change frees up space in the center console and incorporates a new interactive wheel that allows you to control several features in the vehicle. I had the opportunity to sit aboard a pre-production model a few months ago, and I noticed that the steering wheel provided good grip, and that the comfort of the seats was there. -YOU.
Lighter and more powerful
The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan is banking on numerous technical improvements. Under the hood is a reworked version of the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Without providing a lot of details in its press release, Volkswagen still mentions a power gain of 17 horsepower to total 201 horsepower.
According to the information obtained, the automatic gearbox would still be the 8-speed one which would be renewed in 2025, and the 4Motion drivetrain (all-wheel drive) will, of course, still be offered throughout the range.
In addition, the manufacturer mentions having reduced the weight of the 2025 Tiguan by 77 kilos, compared to its predecessor. This should provide a further gain in performance and fuel economy, according to Volkswagen. It will, of course, be necessary to validate everything when the RPM team has the opportunity to test the new German compact SUV.
More data to come
While the official launch for the North American market takes place today, some other details will be announced along the way as the model approaches the market. Among this data, we find the complete equipment offered on each version as well as the complete price range.
